How to be a Good Drummer    by Greg Culver

You can enhance the quality of drumming by following the three main steps. All these steps can be characterized into three parts:

* Love Your Instrument: It is very important to be a good musician and a drummer that you love your instrument. Here, by loving your instrument I mean to care for, learn about, edify, adore and be loyal, committed to provide the necessary protection for your instrument. Once you start loving your instrument you would automatically feel that your music has improved drastically.

If you love your drums then you would always be thinking about them, caring for them and finding new ways to play different and good music thus leading you to the path of a good musician. The drums should have a priority in your life else you will soon lose interest in drums and it would be just another hobby.

* Develop Confidence: Lack of confidence is usually found in most of the drummers as many of them choose drums so that they can play in the background. But these shy drummers never think that their music is always noticed whether they play in background or in the front.

You will be the anchor of the band if you are a drummer in a band. Remember that other musicians are completely dependent on you for music as they rely on strong beats of drum. Drummer is an all-important time keeper in the musicians group and all his drum beats are felt even at the last chair of the auditorium.

You must develop a strong confidence in you and stop hiding behind a drum set while playing. Just maintain your confidence and place in the band and leave the rest.

* Remain Humble: You must be an open minded person if you want to increase your level of playing drums. Being of a humble personality helps you keep your mind fresh and open for ideas. You must keep your mind open for learning unlike those arrogant drummers who believe that they cannot learn any further. You are never so perfect that you cannot learn as man learns by time new things. You can also discover new music or composition with the passage of time.

You can start teaching how to play drums and learn many techniques and tactics while teaching. You can achieve all this only if you are a humble person who can increase his or her level of drumming.

Remember to be confident drummer and not an arrogant one as only confident drummers became a great drummer. No one likes to play with an arrogant drummer.
